Mick Smith

Understanding the doctrine of “The Resurrection of the dead” referred to in Hebrews 6: 2

There are three types of the resurrection from the dead mentioned in the bible:

1. The first resurrection: Rev 20:1-6

2. Resurrection of the just

3. Resurrection of the unjust.

The finished work of the “First Resurrection” are those who have obtained the overcoming life (the fullness of Christ, perfection) who will rule and rein with Christ for one thousand years. The following scriptures help us to understand this term, “First Resurrection”. The words, “first resurrection” are only mentioned as such in;

Rev 20:5-6 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Notices the words here: “second death”. Revelation 21:8 uses these words again;

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Also, in Revelation 2:11 The letter to one of the seven churches, Smyrna, “second death” is used:

11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Finally, Jude uses the words “twice dead”, in Jude 1:12:

12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit “twice dead”, plucked up by the roots.

So, death reined over all of mankind after the fall of Adam; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22:

21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

So, we can say, when we are born into this world, we are born into a, “first death”. After this life, if we die without becoming part of God’s plan, being reconciled to him through and by Jesus Christ, we will die a “second death”, the lake of fire. This death is, “etenal”.

Again, the finished work of the “First Resurrection” are those who have obtained the overcoming life (the fullness of Christ, perfection) who will rule and rein with Christ for one thousand years. This resurrection begins with being, “born again” through faith, repentance, being baptized in water and, receiving the Holy Spirit (the spirit of the life of God).

The “first resurrection” mentioned in Revelaton 20:5-6 is a spiritual resurrection (not from the grave) and is referring to those who have obtained a full age, “in Christ”, who have died out to sin, unto a perfect man. Those who are first to inherit “etenal life”. They will rule and rein with Christ a thousand years.

Below are a few of the scriptures that reveal how, once a person is made alive unto God by receiving the Holy Spirit (the gift of life) – a spiritual resurrection, from death in Adam, being made alive unto God by the “new birth or being resurrected and made alive to God”, is to continue in faith until they overcome the sinful nature of Adam and develop to a “full age in Christ – perfection and become a part of those who “first resurrect to eternal life.”

* Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

* Ephesians 4:12-13 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

* Philippians 3:10-14 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

* Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (the day he is fully developed in you unto a perfect man or women).

Rev 19:1-21

This is a restored church, through the final judgement

Rev 14:14–20

This is the Final Judgement

Jer &:33

Jer 16:5-6

Jer 19:6

Rev 20:4

Bro.
